Inter confirm Romelu Lukaku transfer talks with Chelsea: ‘There is a great desire’

Inter Milan chief executive Alessandro Antonello has confirmed talks with Chelsea are under way over a deal for Romelu Lukaku.

Standard Sport reported earlier on Thursday that discussions between the two clubs had begun with the striker keen to return to the club less than a year after leaving.

With Inter unable to afford a permanent deal for Lukaku, who they sold last summer for £97.5million, a loan deal appears to be the only feasible option.

Chelsea will demand a loan fee, understood to be in the region of £10m, while Lukaku's £300,000-a-week wages will have to be covered, at least for the most part.

"There is a great desire of the player to return," Antonello said on Thursday.

"The economic and financial feasibility must be checked and some technical problems must be solved. We will try to do it in the necessary time."
