Christian Pulisic has been backed to take the Premier League by storm next season after Wednesday night's impressive cameo against Liverpool at Anfield.

Former Tottenham and Manchester United forward Garth Crooks believes that Pulisic is "going to be a star" for Frank Lampard's Chelsea following his red-hot form since the Premier League restart.

Pulisic signed for Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund last summer, and it has taken time for the US international to get going in England due to selection and injury issues.

But the 21-year-old has scored four goals and assisted two more since the season restarted in June, and was particularly impressive off the bench against Liverpool on Merseyside.

With Chelsea 4-1 down, Pulisic came on to beat Liverpool's defence with a mazy run to set up Tammy Abraham - and he soon made it 4-3 with a brilliant volley on the turn.

Liverpool held their nerve to score again to see out a 5-3 victory, but Crooks sees Pulisic as a potential Chelsea star for 2020/21 - even with the added competition of new signings Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.

"Chelsea's visit to Anfield was a crazy game for all sorts of reasons," Crooks wrote for BBC Sport. "The Blues were looking for a point to seal a Champions League spot.

"Meanwhile, Liverpool had very different ideas on a night when they were looking forward to being presented with the Premier League title.

"Liverpool were 4-1 up and suddenly Christian Pulisic came on with 30 minutes left to play and the American set Anfield alight.

"He set up Tammy Abraham with a glorious cross to score before netting himself with a piece of individual brilliance.

"With better defending from Chelsea they might have got the point they were looking for.

"Regardless, Pulisic is going to be a star next season."

Lampard was impressed by Pulisic, saying after the game: "Today he comes on and has 40 minutes, which is great for the injury to feel confident with it and shows the quality that he has been showing.

"He's so young, he has got such natural talent. He scores goals, he creates goals and he is a big player for us.

"Delighted to see him come through fit. Clearly he will be a big player for us in these next few games but going forward as well."
