Chelsea news: First pictures as Frank Lampard leaves home ahead of stunning Blues return as interim manager

Frank Lampard has been pictured this morning leaving his London home as prepares to return to Chelsea as interim manager later on Thursday.

The remarkable return to club where he retains legendary status, despite his sacking as manager a little over two years ago, accelerated this week following talks on Tuesday, as acting head coach Bruno Saltor oversaw a 0-0 draw with Liverpool.

Lampard watched at Stamford Bridge alongside Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali and behind co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, who hope the former midfielder's presence will unite the fans and give the club a chance to salvage something from their season.

The 44-year-old will take training for the first time on Thursday afternoon, aided by former England and Chelsea team-mate Ashley Cole. Coaches Paul Clement and Chris Jones have followed Lampard to Stamford Bridge after working together at Everton. Joe Edwards, a coach under Lampard at Chelsea, also returns.

Lampard's appointment will not slow down the identification of Chelsea's next permanent manager, though Standard Sports understands reports of another sensational return in the form of Antonio Conte is not being considered.

Luis Enrique is flying in for face-to-face talks, having impressed upon initial contact, and alongside Julian Nagelsmann is considered a front runner.
