RB Leipzig fired incoming Chelsea technical director Christopher Vivell over a lack of trust, says the club's chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff.

Vivell was last month made a key target of new co-owner Todd Boehly to replace Petr Cech, who left the club over the summer.

Standard Sport understands Vivell last week agreed to move to Stamford Bridge, before a shock announcement from Leipzig that he had been sacked, the reason for which given being "due to differences of opinion."

Mintzlaff has now elaborated on Vivell's sacking, saying a loss of trust meant the relationship was untenable.

"We already know that Chelsea likes what we do but I cannot comment. I don't know of any talks.

"Chris has certainly done a great job over the last two years, but in the end, things didn't fit anymore. If the trust is no longer there in football, co-operation no longer makes sense.

"That is why we released him. We made this decision with full conviction."
