Chelsea Supporters’ Trust call on Government to end ‘illogical’ ban on sale of home tickets

The Government are facing calls to further amend Chelsea’s operating licence to also allow fans to buy tickets for home matches.

Chelsea are now allowed to sell tickets for away matches, cup fixtures and women’s games under the licence that has allowed the club to operate since owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The licence was amended to allow fans to attend the FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace and the home leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid, allowing tickets to be sold without Chelsea receiving the revenue.

But the ban on non-season ticket holders going to home games remains in force pending the sale of the club. Chelsea have requested that all proceeds from ticket sales go to charities helping victims in Ukraine.

The club have some 28,000 season-ticket holders, meaning around another 10,000 match tickets — after the away allocation — could be sold to raise funds for those charities.

The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust (CST) said in a statement: “The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust notes the decision to amend the ‘special licence’.

"The Trust will urgently seek clarification from the DCMS [Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport] and Chelsea FC on why CFC members will not be able to purchase tickets to home Premier League fixtures at Stamford Bridge.

"The sanctions were not brought in to punish supporters - this decision is illogical and unfounded. Further amends must be made."
