Chelsea begin the defence of their Champions League title tonight against a side they have never faced before in Zenit St. Petersburg.

And while the Blues have gone beyond the group stages in their past six Champions League campaigns, the visitors to Stamford Bridge have not reached the last-16 since 2015.

Chelsea have conceded just once this season in the Premier League, a penalty in a 1-1 draw at Liverpool last month, and that resilience was reflected in the Champions League last term.

Edouard Mendy kept nine sheets in 12 matches in Europe last season, the most in a campaign by a goalkeeper for an English side in the competition’s history.

Like Chelsea, Zenit have had a strong start to their domestic campaign and are unbeaten in seven matches in the Russian Premier League. In that run, Akhmat Grozny and Aleksandr Erokhin have scored five goals each.
