Yet to peak: Lehmann believes there is more to come from Petr Cech

Standard Sport25 February 2015

Former Arsenal man Jens Lehmann has weighed into the debate over who should play in goal for Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho has favoured Thibaut Courtois this term, but Petr Cech has looked assured when deputising and is yet to concede a Premier League goal this season.

And Lehmann believes Cech - who has won 11 major trophies since arriving at Stamford Bridge in 2004 - is yet to reach his peak.

The ex-Gunner says Courtois is one of the best up-and-coming goalkeepers but has yet to justify his selection against the biggest teams.

Lehmann told talkSPORT: "Courtois is probably the best [young] talent around and he has done really great so far, but in tight games he still has to prove he is up to the challenge of what Petr Cech has done.

"He [Cech] is getting to the best age for a goalkeeper. I have experienced it myself, when all of a sudden physique comes together with experience. The best years are still ahead of him."
