Antonio Conte has revealed that Chelsea captain John Terry is on his way to recovering from injury and will be assessed after the club's EFL Cup game against Leicester tonight to determine whether he can face Arsenal at the weekend.

The defender missed the Blues' 2-1 defeat at home to Liverpool on Friday night after suffering an ankle injury in the latter stages of Chelsea's 2-2 draw away to Swansea City the weekend before.

Chelsea must first take on Leicester in the Cup this evening though and, ahead of the clash, Conte revealed that Terry is back in training but will not play although he is nearing his return from injury.

"John is recovering. I saw him outside today and he is recovering," Conte said on Monday.

"After this game we’ll see his physical condition."

Terry's injury means David Luiz will continue in central defence alongside Gary Cahill although Marcos Alonso is expected to be handed his debut at left-back agaisnt Leicester.

Cesc Fabregas, Pedro and Michy Batshuayi are also pushing for a start at the King Power Stadium, with Conte expected to be looking for a response from his players after their defeat against Liverpool on Friday.
