Chelsea loanee Matt Miazga has been fined by Vitesse Arnhem after grabbing an opponent in the groin area during an Eredivisie match.

The American defender was seen clashing with Denzel Dumfries during Vitesse’s 1-1 draw with Heerenveen on January 20, in a match in which the latter play was also elbowed by Vitesse forward Tim Matavz.

Vitesse confirmed on Wednesday that both players had been fined for “inappropriate behaviour”, whilst Matavz has been handed a four-match ban by the Dutch football association.

“First of all, we regret the commotion that has arisen,” Vitesse technical director Marc van Hintum said.

“We have fined both Tim and Matt directly after the events because they do not fit the behaviour shown within the fair play concept of the club.”

Miazga has been a consistent presence in the Vitesse side during his second season on loan from Chelsea, missing only one of their Eredivisie matches this year and playing every minute of their Europa League campaign.
