Substitute Noni Madueke won the match with a late penalty in a chaotic Chelsea win over Crystal Palace.

The end-to-end match could have gone either way, but Madueke, who has only started one match all season, made a statement in a near-perfect cameo from the bench.

Mykhailo Mudryk had opened the scoring by turning in a Malo Gusto cutback, but Michael Olise equalised at half-time after some slack Chelsea defending.

Mateta, Olise and Nicolas Jackson all had chances to win the London derby in the second half, as Christopher Nkunku made his first start and midfielder Romeo Lavia made his Chelsea debut from the bench.

Djordje Petrovic - 7

The Serbian looked composed in goal once again, making some big saves from Jean-Philippe Mateta and Olise's shots.

Malo Gusto - 7

His intelligent switch and overlapping run on the left helped create Chelsea's opening goal.

Axel Disasi - 5

He struggled badly alongside Benoit Badiashile, got moved to right back and was also booked.

Benoit Badiashile - 4

He has had as bad a week as it gets for a central defender, switching off multiple times here to get bullied by Mateta.

Levi Colwill - 4

He struggled against Olise, the best player on the pitch, letting him go for the equaliser. He was substituted in the 58th minute.

Moises Caicedo - 5

The Ecuador international returned having suffered a fever and put himself about but was far from his best.

Conor Gallagher - 6

He produced another dogged display, playing some good passes through the lines under pressure, including a wonderful through ball to Jackson.

Christopher Nkunku - 7

The France international brought quality and composure on his full debut, helping to set up the opening goal. He did, however, miss a good chance and faded later on.

Ian Maatsen - 4

On his first Premier League start for Chelsea, he missed the match's first chance and came off early while playing out of position.

Mykhailo Mudryk - 7

Mudryk created the first big opportunity and scored Chelsea's first goal in a lively opening, but came off with an ankle injury.

Nicolas Jackson - 6

Jackson played well for much of the match, providing huge chances for both Mudryk and Nkunku, then missed a sitter himself before VAR ruled out a goal just minutes later.

Substitutes

Romeo Lavia - 5

The debutant looked off the pace in his first competitive minutes in over seven months.

Thiago Silva - 8

The old timer wasn't allowed his customary rest with Chelsea's backline struggling; he helped steady the ship and set up two huge chances through long balls.

Armando Broja - 6

His touch was initially loose after coming on, but he brought down a long ball and hit a shot into the side netting almost to win the match late.

Noni Madueke - 9

The England Under-21 international was the matchwinner, scoring the winning penalty in a chaotic second half. He had already lifted the crowd with his energy, fighting spirit and dribbling before showing nerves of steel to win the match.

Alfie Gilchrist - N/A

Unused subs: Bettinelli, Bergstrom; Matos, Castledine.
