Rushed back? Diego Costa played 90 minutes at Goodison Park last weekend

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque is refusing to criticise Chelsea for the way they’re handling striker Diego Costa.

The striker had to pull out of their opening qualifier against Macedonia tonight after he suffered a minor hamstring injury against France on Thursday.

It was the second hamstring problem he’d suffered in a short period having also pulled up in training at Chelsea the week before, but he still faced Everton the following weekend.

Costa, who has scored four League goals in three matches, has already returned to Stamford Bridge to get assessed and the club are awaiting news whether he will be fit to face Swansea on Saturday.

Del Bosque understands why Chelsea are being so cautious with their new £32m forward and said: “It hasn’t been easy with Diego. All his teammates are trying to help him. He’s a great guy and has always shown interest in playing for Spain.

“When there were doubts surrounding his fitness, he was the first wanting to join the squad. Now he’s in great form but I wouldn’t suggest that he’s feeling pressure from his club."

His comments come after Spain international reassured Chelsea fans that Costa's hamstring injury is 'nothing serious'.
