Chelsea could send even more of their academy players out on loan during the winter transfer window despite the club already having 37 of their footballers away on loan deals.

Chelsea development coach Adi Viveash this week confirmed that he expects to see some of his players, including Marco van Ginkel, move on in January to gain experience of regular competitive football after his Under-23 side beat Oxford United 13-12 on penalties in the Checkatrade Trophy clash at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues already have nearly 40 players out on loan, which includes the likes of Loic Remy at Crystal Palace, Juan Cuadrado at Juventus and Tammy Abraham.

The 19-year-old striker, in particular, has benefited from leaving Chelsea this season for Bristol City - being named as the EFL Young Player of the Month for September after scoring 12 goals in all competitions for the Championship side.

Viveash believes Abraham is setting a great example to the rest of Chelsea's on-loan players by showing how playing regularly can prove beneficial.

"This is a different group, we have a couple from this group that in January will probably be looking [to move on loan] at the older end," Viveash said on Tuesday.

"The reality is, that when you go out there, it is what you do, and you could have envisaged Tammy hitting the ground running, but what Tammy has is a massive enthusiasm for the game.

"He just loves playing football and he loves scoring goals and you can see that by the goals he scores. We have reminded him that most of them are tap-ins but it doesn't really matter.

"He is a nice kid Tammy and he will be learning a lot about Championship defenders."

Viveash added: "It is not just Tammy, Kasey Palmer is playing in the Championship as well, at Huddersfield, a team that are flying very high so those boys are ready for the next stage of their development.

"It is great for them to go out and experience senior football and they are doing well in it. It is great for Charlie Colkett and Jake, the pair at Bristol Rovers, in League One, in this league.

"I watched them play against Swindon and they both performed pretty well and it is different stages of where players are at."
