New Chelsea signing Mateo Kovacic has been backed to thrive under Maurizio Sarri after sealing a loan move from Real Madrid.

The Croatian becomes the new manager's third new addition to his first-team squad but Standard Sport understands club to not have the option to make the move permanent next season.

Jorginho followed Sarri from Napoli with the view to aiding the squad's transition to 'Sarri-ball', while new goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga's ability to play with his feet has been highlighted since his arrival.

Kovacic is no different, with Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia backing the midfielder to suit the new era at Stamford Bridge: "We are very happy to welcome Mateo to the Chelsea family.

"He is a perfect fit for us this season, his style is well suited to how Maurizio wants to play and we are sure he will prove to be a valuable asset for the club."

The player added: "I am really happy and excited to be here at Chelsea. It is an amazing feeling. I will try to do my best for this club.

"It is a new league for me, the beginning is always tough but I am sure the coach and my new team-mates will help me and I am looking forward to a great season."
