Chelsea star Eden Hazard: Jose Mourinho was wrong to sell Kevin De Bruyne

Mistake: Chelsea should not have sold De Bruyne, says Hazard

Eden Hazard believes Jose Mourinho made a mistake selling Kevin De Bruyne.

De Bruyne left Chelsea to join Wolfsburg in January after Mourinho decided to offload him and Hazard has questioned the decision to let him leave.

Hazard feels De Bruyne, who has excelled in the Bundesliga since leaving Stamford Bridge, was good enough to play for Chelsea.

"Chelsea would have been stronger if we kept De Bruyne, he is a great player," he told L'Equipe. "But Mourinho decided to let him go and not play him.

"It was not my decision, even though I am certain that he could have thrived at Chelsea because he has tremendous qualities. Though I think at Chelsea you have more pressure than Wolfsburg.”

De Bruyne, 23, has scored nine goals and made 16 assists for Wolfsburg and Standard Sport understands Manchester City are keen to bring him to the Etihad.

"I would have loved to still play with him at Chelsea, but him getting first-team football is good for him - you can see what it's done for Thibaut Courtois,” said his Belgium team-mate Hazard. “It’s a shame he's gone but he'll surely have a successful career."

Hazard and De Bruyne will line up for Belgium against Cyprus tomorrow in an important Euro 2016 qualifier. Belgium are fourth in Group B, behind Israel, Wales and Cyprus, with only the top two assured of qualification.
