Chelsea midfielder Victor Moses has been rewarded for his consistent performances for the champions by being nominated for the 2017 African Footballer of the Year award.

Moses has been included in the 30-man shortlist, which was announced on Wednesday, after playing a key role in Chelsea's record-breaking Premier League title win last season.

After spending three successive campaigns out on loan, Moses was integrated into Antonio Conte's team last year and, playing in the previously unfamiliar right wing-back role, the Nigeria international shone for the Blues.

His club form extended to his national side, with Moses scoring a brace in Nigeria's 3-1 World Cup qualifying win over Algeria and also scoring against Cameroon as the country became the first African side to book their place at Russia 2018.

Moses will be competing with last year's winner, Riyad Mahrez, along with the likes of Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, Liverpool duo Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah and Manchester United's Eric Bailly for the gong.

The only other Chelsea player to be crowned African Footballer of the Year is Didier Drogba, who twice won the award in 2006 and 2009.

This year's winner will be announced in Accra on January 4.
