Chelsea have completed the signing of former England goalkeeper Rob Green on a one-year deal.

Green, 38, joins as a free agent following his release from Huddersfield Town at the end of the 2017-18 season and will serve as the club’s third-choice shot stopper.

The move comes after Chelsea’s decision to allow Eduardo to join Vitesse Arnhem on a season long loan after not playing a single game in two seasons at Stamford Bridge.

Green made one appearance for Huddersfield during the 2017-18 campaign having previously had spells at Leeds United, Queens Park Rangers, West Ham United and Norwich City.

His arrival will not affect Chelsea’s pursuit of a first-choice goalkeeper to replace Thibaut Courtois, who is expected to complete a £35.5m to Real Madrid.

Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma and Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel are among the options being considered by the Blues for that role.

Chelsea are also in the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey, but face competition from Roma.
