Zenit St Petersburg manager Andre Villas-Boas has ruled his club out of a move for Chelsea loanee Radamel Falcao.

The struggling Colombian was a reported target for the Russian side in recent days, with the club having also pursued him in the summer before he signed for Villas-Boas’ former side.

Russian league rules brought in this July limit each team to fielding no more than six foreign players at any one time. Their introduction has already forced Zenit to sell Salomon Rondon to West Bromwich Albion and the manager confirmed it would also make it difficult to move for Falcao.

“I haven’t had a conversation with Jose, the player belongs to Chelsea, on loan from Monaco,” Villas-Boas told the club website.

“It’s difficult to bring such a player to Russia with the rules and regulations we have.

“We tried to bring him here in the summer at the start of the season, but then the rules changed a week before the season started.”

Falcao has struggled to rediscover his once fearsome form in front of goal during spells at Manchester United and Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho was convinced he could bring out the best in the 29-year-old but the forward may now depart Stamford Bridge in January after just one goal in 10 appearances.
