Chelsea are confident they can persuade QPR keeper Rob Green to replace Petr Cech as back-up to Thibaut Courtois next season.

Cech has confirmed he will look to leave Stamford Bridge after 11 years at the club during the next window and manager Jose Mourinho won't stand in his way.

Mourinho wants an experienced man to take his spot in the squad in the same way Mark Schwarzer fulfilled the role under Cech last season.

Green has been in impressive form for QPR this term, which has earned him a recall to the England squad.

Rangers are facing a struggle to keep one of their best players, even if they somehow avoid relegation in May. Green will command a fee of less than £5m as he has just one year left on his contract.

The 35-year-old is likely to be concerned about the lack of first team football at Stamford Bridge.

However, Chelsea will point to the fact that Cech has still played 14 times this season, including the Capital One Cup Final and in the Champions League group stage.

As an Englishman, Green's arrival will help Chelsea's bid to fulfil the home-grown quota in the Premier League and Champions League.

Youngster Jamal Blackman is set to keep his role as third choice keeper, a position he inherited following Schwarzer's departure to Leicester in January.
