Chelsea's promising youngster Charly Musonda will remain on loan with Spanish club Real Betis for the 2016/17 season, the Blues have confirmed.

The 19-year-old sealed a loan move to Betis in January as a host of Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Manchester City, sought to sign the attacking midfielder, despite Musonda signing a new four-year deal at Stamford Bridge last year.

After impressing in Spain, Musonda admitted in March it would be better for his development that he stay with Betis rather than return to Chelsea and play in the reserve side next season.

And the 19-year-old will now do that after Chelsea confirmed an extension of his loan move with Betis.

"Charly Musonda will continue his development in La Liga with his loan to Real Betis extended to cover the 2016/17 season," a statement on Chelsea's website on Wednesday read.

"This coming campaign Musonda will be managed by our former player Gustavo Poyet who was appointed by Betis in May."
