Charlton have made their first signing of the January transfer window, announcing a loan deal for Chelsea youngster Jay Dasilva that will go through on Sunday.

The 18-year-old, who can play across the left flank, becomes the 37th Chelsea player currently out on loan and comes highly-rated, with two Uefa Youth League titles to his name.

Addicks boss Carl Robinson hopes to bring in several new players during the summer window, with additions in central midfield high on his wishlist.

“Jay is somebody who has been very highly thought of in Chelsea’s academy system over the last three years or so,” Robinson said. “What he’ll give us is a real dynamic speed and a real agility in his movement.

“He’s a left footed player that can play as a winger, a wing-back and in the number 10 position. Technically, he is outstanding and we are very pleased to get this deal done right away.

“We are short on bodies at the moment and Jay will help to bolster our squad, as well as the move aiding his development.”

The 18-year-old will be considered for Robinson’s squad in Charlton’s first match of the new year, at home to Bristol Rovers on Monday January 2.

“I’m delighted to sign here on loan until the end of the season and I cannot wait to get started. This is my first loan move, so I’m itching to get going and I’m looking forward to getting familiar with everything around here.

“I see myself as an attack-minded player. I’m not the tallest but I’m very quick and this is the next step for me in my development as a player. I think that Charlton is the right place for me to take that step.”

Dasilva started two EFL Trophy matches for the Blues this season and has played as a left wing-back for much of the season, with the Chelsea Under-23s aping the 3-4-3 formation that Conte introduced to the senior side.

Charlton are expected to lose a highly-rated youngster of their own during the January window, with Everton leading the chase for youngster Ademola Lookman. Their manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed his interest in the 19-year-old, who reportedly could cost the Premier League side up to £10million.
