Mikel John Obi has admitted he would be open to moving to MLS to play either with or against former Chelsea star Frank Lampard.
Mikel's future at Chelsea, where he has been at for more than a decade, remains uncertain with the club not yet having offered the midfielder a new contract.
The Nigeria international's current deal with the Blues will expire next summer, and Mikel has admitted he will begin talking to other clubs in January if it looks likely he will not be handed a new contract.
One of the options for Mikel would be to move to MLS, where his former teammate Lampard plays.
The midfielder left Chelsea for New York City FC in 2014 and, after a slow start to life at his new club, Lampard has enjoyed a good run of of recent form - scoring 15 goals this year to help his side go third in the standings.
Mikel admits that his desire to play once more with Lampard is a huge reason why he would be willing to move to MLS in the future.
"There was absolutely no doubt that Frank wouldn’t go out there and succeed," Mikel told Goal.
"I am happy that he is back to his best, doing what he loves to do and, one day, who knows, I may go over there and play with him, or play against him.
"The first few months or so, it was a bad period for him and he didn’t have the best period out there. They started raising questions here and there about his fitness and what he actually came to do in America.
"I think we, here [at Chelsea], knew he wasn’t fully fit then, but once he became fit, we can see a different Frank Lampard, the Lampard we know, scoring goals and helping the team. I think Frank will never stop scoring goals. I think when he is asleep he is still scoring goals."
