Ronald Koeman has admitted that he is preparing for life without striker Romelu Lukaku as Chelsea maintain their pursuit of the Everton striker.

We reported earlier this month that, despite a contract offer worth £135,000-a-week on the table, the Belgian striker is set on a return to Stamford Bridge – after finally leaving the club back in 2014 following loan spells at West Brom and season at Goodison Park prior to his £28million transfer.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte appeared to send a message to Everton and Napoli in his press conference ahead today’s clash with Watford that the club would not be held to ransom in the transfer market, as they look to complete deals for Lukaku and Kalidou Koulibaly respectively.

And Koeman has admitted that he has a ‘plan b’ in place for if Lukaku leaves the club.

“I have two plans – one is with Lukaku and one without him. There is a lot of interest for him we know, he’s a good player,” said Koeman.

“You can’t win it if really it is a big team who spend a lot of money for an Everton player or a Southampton player.

“There was not really that big bid on the table and still now there is no big bid on the table. We need to wait two more weeks to be sure about the future but he’s still here.”
