Brentford defender Henrik Dalsgaard has urged teammate Said Benrahma to fire the Bees into the Premier League amid speculation linking him with Chelsea.

Reports this week suggested Frank Lampard is keen to make the Algerian part of a summer spree that will already see Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner arrive at Stamford Bridge.

Thomas Frank’s side resume their campaign against local rivals Fulham this weekend and currently sit fourth in the Championship, ten points adrift of automatic promotion but firmly set in the playoff places.

Benrahma’s form has been a key part of Brentford’s run, but when asked whether the uncertainty surrounding his future might damage the west Londoner’s promotion hopes, Dalsgaard said: “No.

“He knows that if he is to go to any other club at some point then he needs to perform at Brentford. Why not shine now and make sure we go to the Premier League? And then maybe he doesn't have to change teams to play in the Premier League.”

The 24-year-old has ten goals and eight assists in 34 league appearances this season as part of the so-called ‘BMW’ frontline that has terrorised Championship defences, alongside Ollie Watkins and Bryan Mbeumo.

As a right-back, Danish international Dalsgaard has to deal with Benrahma’s threat in training on a regular basis and has little doubt that he has the talent to play at the highest level.

“He's such a tricky player, you think you've got him locked in the corner and then all of a sudden he's out,” Dalsgaard added. “But again, it's the combinations he does with the two other guys up front and [midfielder] Mathias Jensen that make it so hard to manage him.

“If he can focus completely and get a little more determination, then I'm sure he can take it quite far.”
