Frank Lampard says Timo Werner was sold on the project he is building at Chelsea with the Germany international poised to join the Blues next month.

Chelsea have agreed personal terms with the player and a £47.5m fee with RB Leipzig to seal their second signing alongside Hakim Ziyech, who will arrive from Ajax.

Werner had been previously pursued by Liverpool and at one point suggested he would fit in well working under Jurgen Klopp in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old is poised to arrive at Stamford Bridge however with Lampard impressed with his enthusiasm over his plans in west London.

"He's clearly a player we liked and I've followed him for a long time as a talented player. He will strengthen us, he's a huge talent and he's had a fantastic season.

"I had good conversations with Timo personally," Lampard said at a virtual press conference on Friday.

"He understands our project and what we want to do as a club. We're pleased he's decided to come to us and look forward to him joining next season."

Werner has signed a five-year deal with the Blues on a contract worth around £200,000 a week.
