Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri hopes to be appointed Juventus manager this week, but Eden Hazard’s wish to secure a dream move to Real Madrid before tomorrow have been dashed.

Sarri was in Italy today as he closed in on a deal with the Serie A champions after just one year in charge at Stamford Bridge.

He told Chelsea chiefs on Friday he wanted to cut short his time at the club, despite winning the Europa League and finishing third in the Premier League.

Chelsea will not stand in his way and have stepped up their search for his successor, with Frank Lampard high on their wish-list.

Sarri is believed to have agreed a two-year deal with Juventus, which includes the option of another 12 months. It is worth in excess of £6million a year.

Juventus had made Mauricio Pochettino and Pep Guardiola their primary targets to replace outgoing Massimiliano Allegri, with Sarri the back-up option.

However, Sarri is now on the verge of getting the post because the top two candidates are too expensive and too difficult to prise away from their clubs.

With Sarri having a year left on his agreement with Chelsea, the club are looking to get £5m in compensation.

Meanwhile, Hazard will now have to wait until after the international break for his transfer to Real to be completed.

He was looking to move before joining up with the Belgium squad on June 4 but a transfer fee has yet to be agreed.

Belgium are preparing for Euro qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Scotland.

The fixture against the latter takes place a week on Tuesday, so it is unlikely he will finalise anything with Real until June 12 at the earliest.
