Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has signed a new five-year contract with the club.

Mount, who spent last season on loan at Championship club Derby County, has long been tipped for a bright future by those at Stamford Bridge.

After Frank Lampard, who worked with Mount at Derby last season, was appointed as Chelsea head coach in July it was thought the 20-year-old would have an important role this season.

And that seems to be the case after the Blues rewarded the England Under-21 international with a new five-year deal on Monday.

“It’s a massively proud moment for myself and my family,” said Mount.

“I’m really looking forward to the coming season now and working hard to have an impact here at Chelsea. I’ve been at the club for a long time already and hopefully I’ll stay for a long time to come.”

Mount scored for Chelsea in their 4-0 pre-season victory over St Patrick’s Athletic in Dublin on Saturday and is now heading with the squad to Japan ahead of matches with Kawasaki Frontale and Barcelona.

The club are delighted to tie down one of their hottest prospects, who has been at Stamford Bridge since he was six years old.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia added: “Mason has come right the way through the Chelsea Academy and has always stood out as a fantastic talent and dedicated individual.

“We have monitored his development extremely closely while he has been out on loan and believe he is now ready to be a member of our squad competing at the top of the Premier League.

“Like another of our academy graduates, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, we are delighted Mason has committed himself to the club this summer and look forward to an exciting future ahead.”
