Chelsea are set to confirm they have reached an agreement with Willian to extend his contract by another year.

Willian has been in talks for months and is now ready to commit his future to the club despite interest from Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United over the past 12 months.

The Brazil international still has a year remaining on his contract and Chelsea have taken some convincing to extend it.

But with the Blues having being handed a transfer ban by Fifa for the next two windows — their appeal will not be heard before this period closes — Chelsea are willing to give the winger what he wants. The club ditched their policy of granting players aged over 30 only one-year extensions when they gave a two-year deal to David Luiz, who could have left for free this summer, in May.

Willian has played a significant role at Chelsea since joining from Anzhi Makhachkala for £30million in 2013 and has won five major trophies, including two League titles.

In March, he confirmed he was looking to stay, saying: “I have one year left, but of course I want to play for this club. This club is very special to me. I won titles here, I have the affection from the fans and from the people that work in the club. I feel comfortable to stay. I am happy when I play well and score goals. I can give a different light.”

Willian claimed at the weekend that he has already been promised the No10 shirt following Eden Hazard’s departure to Real Madrid. However, coach Frank Lampard refused to confirm the switch this week. It is believed Callum Hudson-Odoi’s advisers have also asked for the winger to have the No10 shirt as part of contract negotiations.

Meanwhile, Pedro is another veteran who would like to discuss a new deal. The Spain international also has just one year left and will be 33 by the time the 2020-21 campaign kicks off.

However, he has been part of the Chelsea side that has won three major trophies since joining from Barcelona in 2015 and is keen to stay longer.
