Chelsea pair Mikel John Obi and Victor Moses played from the start as Nigeria laboured to a narrow victory over Tanzania on Saturday in Uyo.

Manchester City's Kelechi Iheanacho scored the winner as the Super Eagles warmed up for next month's World Cup qualifier against Zambia with a win, already knowing qualification for January’s Africa Cup of Nations was beyond them.

Both Mikel and Moses were sacrificed before full-time, with the latter spurning two good chances to open the scoring in the first period

Tanzania goalkeeper Aishi Manula put in a man-of-the-match performance as he twice denied the Blues man in the opening period, before keeping Ahmed Musa at bay after good work from Mikel.

The Super Eagles captain himself then carved an opening, while Watford's Odion Ighalo was twice spurned before Iheanacho finally found a way past the impressive Manula from range.

Egypt finished top of AFCON qualifying Group G ahead of Nigeria.
