Shaun Williams believes Carlos Edwards can come back stronger after the right-back was ruled out for a lengthy period with knee ligament damage.

He was carried off during Millwall’s draw last Saturday with Nottingham Forest and could be out for up to 12 months.

Midfielder Williams, who travels with the Lions to Huddersfield tomorrow, said: “It’s a horrible thing to happen. Hopefully the club are faithful to him and he can get back to the level of fitness which he had before the injury. It’s an awful thing for Carlos.

“He runs around like he is a 21-year-old. Hopefully he comes back stronger from this and we’re in no doubt he will. All of his team-mates are behind him.”

Justin Hoyte or Jimmy Abdou could deputise for Ian Holloway at right-back for the trip to the John Smith’s Stadium.

Millwall travel north looking for their first win of September, following a strong start to the Championship campaign.
