Confirmed: Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and the highest-paid footballers in the world

1/21

French publication France Football have released their annual look at the highest-paid footballers in the world.

It is of little surprise that Paris Saint-Germain's Neymar, Juventus talisman Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona great Lionel Messi at the top three.

In fact, such is their dominance in the financial field that third-placed Neymar earns more than twice fourth-placed Antoine Griezmann earns at Atletico Madrid.

The highest-paid Premier League player, Manchester United's Alexis Sanchez earns in a month that Messi earns in a week.

There are five Premier League players of the 20 on the list, with United and Manchester City boasting two and Arsenal with one.

The figures also show the cavernous wage gap from the male and female sport with Messi earning 325 times more than the highest-paid woman, who is Lyon's Ada Heberberg.

France Football calculate the figures based on wages, bonuses and commercial income, and there are a few surprises in the top 20.
