Cristian Stellini demands ‘attacking football’ from Tottenham to secure Champions League spot

Cristian Stellini has admitted Tottenham have to play more “attacking football” in the final weeks of the season.

The departure of Antonio Conte has done little to lift the mood at Spurs, or improve the style of play, with the Italian’s assistant changing very little in terms of approach since taking charge on an interim basis.

Tottenham dropped two points at Goodison Park straight after the international break, and were fortunate to beat Brighton last time out as the PGMOL apologised to the Seagulls for VAR’s decision to not award them a penalty in that match.

Spurs have eight Premier League matches to play and currently sit fifth in the table, three points behind Manchester United and Newcastle who both have a game in hand over the time.

Despite the problems at the club on and off the pitch in recent weeks, Stellini insisted his side are still capable of finishing in the top four and securing Champions League football for next season.

“We could do,” Stellini told reporters.

“We have to play final eight games like eight finals. We have to play attacking football.”

After a fractious encounter between Spurs and Brighton, both clubs were charged by the FA as Stellini and Roberto Ze Derbi were sent off following a touchline melee between the two sets of coaching staff.

The pair have avoided touchline bans though, and Stellini has claimed there are positives to take from the incident.

“What we created in that moment was not a good impression,” the Spurs boss admitted.

“Maybe for the atmosphere we created it is good, the decision. We have to be better but personally I am happy we showed we are a team, we are linked, we are close.”
