Ruben Loftus-Cheek is set to miss Crystal Palace’s game against Everton on Saturday because of the back injury he sustained playing for England.

The midfielder was forced off in the first half of the 0-0 against Brazil at Wembley on Tuesday.

Loftus-Cheek was being assessed by the Palace medical department on Thursday and the problem is not thought to be serious. But he looks unlikely to recover in time to play this weekend and his absence will be a blow for Palace ahead of a crunch game at the bottom of the table.

Loftus-Cheek produced a man-of-the-match display against Germany on his England debut last Friday and Roy Hodgson was hoping he would return to Palace on a high.

The 21-year-old has been in good form this season but his confidence will have been given a huge boost by his impressive display against Germany and he looks likely to play a key role in helping Palace avoid relegation.

Loftus-Cheek, who is on loan from Chelsea, has struggled with injury problems this season.
