Crystal Palace transfer news: Roy Hodgson on decision to pull plug on deal for Liverpool’s Dominic Solanke

Richard Parry2 January 2019

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson says he has to ‘accept’ the club’s decision after they pulled out of a deal to bring Dominic Solanke to Selhurst Park on loan.

Palace are keen to bolster their attacking options and both Hodgson and chief executive Steve Parish had talked up a move for the former Chelsea forward in recent weeks.

But it understood that concerns over the player’s fitness forced Palace to reconsider the move, a decision that has clearly left Hodgson disappointed.

"Unfortunately it is a club decision,” he told reporters.

"It turns out there were complications and the club decided it wasn’t the right moment to do it.

"He had made his mind up in our favour, but it didn’t work out... But you accept these things as a manager."

"If there are other players the club can bring in I won't be adverse to that because we have a very small squad and we don't have a lot to back us up.

"We are on the look out and the chairman and technical director are anxious to do what they can."

Though his move to Palace is off, other options may materialise for Solanke.

As reported by Standard Sport on Wednesday, Bundesliga side Schalke are also keen on bringing the forward to Germany.

Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel has a close relationship with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, having worked with him at Mainz.

Brighton are also understood to be interested.
