Darren Randolph has admitted West Ham rode their luck during this afternoon's 1-1 draw against Manchester United.

West Ham started the game in superb fashion when Diafra Sakho latched onto Dimitri Payet's cross to put the visitors in front.

But Slaven Bilic's side were pegged back when Zlatan Ibrahimovic levelled in the 21st minute and were forced to defend resiliently to secure a valuable point.

Randolph was in inspired form between the sticks, producing a succession of saves to keep the Red Devils at bay as the east Londoners moved a point clear of the relegation zone.

And the Republic of Ireland international has conceded that West Ham got the rub of the green at Old Trafford.

"We rode our luck and had to defend for our lives at times," he told the BBC.

"It was important to come out and have a good performance and show we can compete against the big teams. We genuinely believed we could get something from the game.

"It wasn't just me that needed to be switched on it was the whole team and they were."

West Ham will be back in Manchester in just four days' time as they face United in an EFL Cup quarter final.

But Jose Mourinho might not be in attendance having been sent off for kicking a water bottle in the first half of today's encounter.
