Darwin Nunez injury: Liverpool suffer huge blow ahead of Arsenal title test

The striker, who hit the woodwork four times against Chelsea, has been unable to train

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez is a major doubt for Sunday’s showdown with Arsenal.

Nunez injured his foot during Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Chelsea on Wednesday and was forced to leave Anfield in a protective boot.

An X-ray has confirmed the striker has not suffered a broken bone, but he has been unable to train due to the swelling in his foot.

Nunez was due to be assessed by Liverpool’s medical staff over the next 48 hours before a final decision was made ahead of Sunday’s game at Emirates Stadium.

“I don’t know if Darwin is available or not because Darwin had, after 20 minutes [against Chelsea], someone step on his foot,” Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said this morning.

“It was very painful after the game. He only took the boot off after the game because he didn’t want to see it before. He knew that it was something.

“He left the stadium in a boot - and it was not a football boot. Nothing is broken and the x-ray is clear, but we have to see if he can get this foot back into a boot or not.

“We all know that takes time. I didn’t see him this morning, so we have to wait a little bit.”
