David Gold welcomed West Ham's new signing Pedro Obiang to the club by mistakenly tweeting out a photo of Juventus defender Angelo Ogbonna.

The Hammers confirmed on Wednesday that they had signed Obiang, 23, from Sampdoria on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £4.3million.

Gold took to Twitter after the signing had been announced to welcome the Spain Under-21 international to the east London side, but unwittingly posted a picture of Juve's Italian defender Ogbonna instead.

Alongside the photo of the centre-back, Gold wrote: "I am delighted to announce the signing of 23 year old midfield Pedro Obiang from Sampdoria. Pedro, welcome, dg."

Gold later deleted the tweet before posting a similar message with a picture of Obiang holding a Hammers scarf at the Boleyn Ground.
