De Bruyne: I'm joining Chelsea

11 April 2012

Genk winger Kevin de Bruyne says he is on the verge of completing a move to Chelsea but expects to spend next season on loan at Anderlecht.

Chelsea made a £9million bid for the Belgium international last week but want him to experience first-team football elsewhere before joining up with the first-team squad.

His move to Anderlecht is also seen as a negotiating tool to secure the signing of long-term target Romelu Lukaku from the Belgian club.

De Bruyne, 19, said: "I have had time to think about my future and I would love to join Chelsea but the important thing next season is that I play.

"And with Chelsea there is not that guarantee but there would be at Anderlecht and they would be ideal springboard for me.

"Genk are in the Champions League but if I can improve sporting-wise and obviously financially then I hope that they will not put any obstacles in my way."

Reports in Belgium claim deals for De Bruyne and £14m-rated Lukaku could be completed this weekend.
