David de Gea will stay at Manchester United despite reports linking him to Real Madrid, according to his agent.

De Gea is yet to extend his contract beyond the summer of 2016 but Jorge Mendes does not think the goalkeeper will leave Old Trafford anytime soon.

"He has one year left on his contract and I think that he will stay in Manchester," he told BBC Sport. "The player will decide, but he's happy there at the moment."

Louis van Gaal signed Victor Valdes, the former Barcelona goalkeeper, last month. That put doubt over De Gea's future as did the United manager's recent admission that "anything is possible".

Mendes, who founded the agency Gestifute in 1996, also represents Cristiano Ronaldo, Diego Costa, James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao.

And Mendes admitted that Falcao's future at United once his season-long loan deal expires is uncertain.

He was celebrated when he joined van Gaal's side last summer but has scored only four goals in nine appearances.

He said: "If he will stay in Manchester, he will play for sure in one of the biggest teams in Europe."
