After all the controversy and the fanfare, Declan Rice has made his England debut, introduced off the bench in the Euro 2020 qualifier against the Czech Republic.

The West Ham midfielder, who saw his switch of associations ratified by Fifa last month, had spent the entire season deliberating over his decision before making the recent announcement.

Having been hooked after 45 minutes at Liverpool on the opening day of the season, and omitted from the following matchday squad, this was perhaps a moment few expected of the 20-year-old.

Though speak to those who work closely with Rice on a day-to-day basis and the same compliment arises each and every time. He has a mental strength which sets him apart from the rest.

It is that remarkable strength of mind and maturity which has seen him become a vital cog of Manuel Pellegrini's plans at club level, and caused so many to predict a bright future for England.
