Dele Alli hailed Tottenham's reaction to losing their opening Champions League clash in midweek after the team beat Sunderland 1-0 on Sunday.

Mauricio Pochettino's men suffered a disappointing night in the Champions League against Monaco at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday night after losing the match 2-1, which resulted in the Argentine making several changes to his starting XI for the visit of the Black Cats.

The changes worked as Spurs dominated the Premier League game from start to finish, and were finally rewarded in the 59th minute when Harry Kane netted the only goal of the game to send Tottenham into third place in the table.

Despite admitting that Spurs should have beaten Sunderland by a bigger margin, Alli was simply happy that the team showed a good reaction to losing against Monaco.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Alli said: "We always look to bounce back after a defeat. The game against Monaco was a hard one to take.

"Maybe we should have seen this game off sooner. We were dominating. We felt comfortable and felt we needed to be patient. We knew a chance would come and thankfully it did.

"It's a great bunch of boys here, everyone gets on well and looks to help each other on the pitch."
