Former Manchester United forward Diego Forlan has tried to convince Luis Suarez to quit Liverpool for Old Trafford this summer.

Suarez, who attempted to force through a move away from Liverpool in the summer, has enjoyed an impressive season on Merseyside, scoring 29 goals in 32 appearances, helping propel the Reds into the Premier League title picture.

Despite efforts to quit the club last year, the Uruguay striker has expressed a desire to stay at Liverpool beyond this season and admits he is excitedly anticipating Champions League matches at Anfield next term.

But his compatriot Forlan hinted that Suarez is now having second thoughts about his future, and revealed he has encouraged the Kop favourite to up sticks and head for bitter rivals Manchester United.

"We spoke a few days ago," Forlan told Brazilian sports paper Lance!. "He asked me if I think he should stay at Liverpool.

"All I told him was to think about going to Manchester United. I know he loves Liverpool, the fans and the city, but I think the best thing for his career would be to move to Old Trafford."

Forlan, 34, won the Premier League with United in 2003 and currently plys his trade in the Japanese first division with Cerezo Osaka.
