Dyche: Don't blame Loach for dropped points

11 April 2012

Sean Dyche defended Scott Loach after the Watford goalkeeper's error allowed Bristol City to share the points at Vicarage Road last night.

Watford drew 2-2 after squandering a two-goal lead with City's equaliser coming when Loach allowed Adrian Mariappa's back-pass to slip under his foot and into the net.

The 23-year-old posted on Twitter: "Taxi for Loach! Apologies to all Watford fans who had to c that!! Hold my hands up completely. On to the next one."

Manager Dyche believes the keeper should not be blamed too heavily for making a rare error.

"It was an unfortunate thing that happened," he said. "It happens to keepers during their careers.

"He regained concentration, though, and took crosses well as well as making some good saves."

The home side went ahead when Carl Dickinson smashed the ball past David James from 30 yards. Craig Beattie doubled the lead when he headed in after Mark Yeates's shot rebounded off the bar. City grabbed a goal back just before half-time before Loach's error levelled the scores.
