Edwin van der Sar’s condition ‘stable but still concerning’ after brain bleed

Edwin van der Sar’s condition remains “stable but still concerning” following a bleed on his brain, his family have said.

The 52-year-old former Netherlands, Fulham and Manchester United goalkeeper was taken to an intensive care unit on Friday.

Ajax tweeted an update on Saturday, saying: “Edwin van der Sar will remain in intensive care for the time being. His condition is stable but still concerning.

“Ajax shares this information on behalf of Annemarie van der Sar, Edwin’s wife.

“The Van der Sar family, along with Ajax, is grateful and deeply touched by the many messages of support.”

Van der Sar is reportedly being treated in a hospital in Croatia, where he was on holiday.

Fulham have sent their support to Van der Sar, tweeting on Friday: “Everyone at Fulham Football Club wishes Edwin a speedy recovery. We’re thinking of you.”

Manchester United tweeted: “Sending all our love and strength to you, Edwin.”
