The EFL remains hopeful that supporters will be able to attend next month's Carabao Cup final between Tottenham and Manchester City but insists nothing has been decided.

Talks are continuing between the EFL, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the FA over using the Wembley showpiece as a test event for the return of a small number of fans.

Any pilot event would be limited to 10,000 supporters under government guidelines, and it is thought that a range of 4,000-8,000 is being considered for the match on April 25, with tickets to go to local residents, NHS workers and fans of both clubs.

Spurs and City supporters can expect less than a quarter of overall allocation, while it is unclear if fans will be permitted to travel down from Manchester to attend.

An EFL spokesperson said this morning: "It has always been our intention to be able to see supporters back at Wembley Stadium for this game and this was the sole rationale behind moving it from its February date.

"Despite continuing positive discussions with the relevant stakeholders and authorities we do not have any confirmation as to what will be permitted as part of any potential test event at this stage and felt it important to clarify the position out of courtesy to the two participating Clubs and particularly their supporters.

"We remain hopeful of achieving a successful conclusion and will advise on the outcome in due course."
