Eidur Gudjohnsen in blue heaven again

David Smith11 April 2012

It suits Fulham newcomer Eidur Gudjohnsen that there will be a blue tinge to his side's white shirts against Newcastle at Craven Cottage tonight, because the Icelander believes a Chelsea connection can help him prove he still has a lot to offer the Premier League.

Gudjohnsen played 250 games for Chelsea before moving to Barcelona in 2007. Among his team-mates at Stamford Bridge were current Fulham winger Damien Duff, Steve Sidwell and manager Mark Hughes. French teenager Gael Kakuta, newly arrived on loan from Carlo Ancelotti's squad, is likely to join Gudjohnsen on the bench.

The 32-year-old striker said: "This is a great opportunity for me to get my career back on track."

That career has stalled since leaving Spain for Monaco in 2009, where he made nine appearances, followed by a dozen on loan at Spurs and he didn't even make the starting line-up at Stoke after that move in August. He said: "There's competition for places at Fulham but I'll do my best to bring out my qualities. This team has a lot of quality and the position in the League doesn't reflect that."
