Barcelona’s second goal against Real Madrid at Camp Nou this afternoon is the first ever penalty awarded by the video assistant referee in the history of the Clasico.

Luis Suarez went down in the area under a challenge by Raphael Varane and there were boos from the home fans as play went on initially.

However, the action was analysed by VAR – which was brought in this season in La Liga –as the home fans waited with bated breath and the referee also ran over to the side of the pitch to watch a replay.

After a considerable wait, the penalty was awarded amid big celebrations from the Camp Nou crowd and moments later, it was even louder as Suarez slotted low to the right of Thibaut Courtois to put Barca 2-0 ahead after half an hour of the match and also make a little bit of history in this famous fixture.
