Emmanuel Adebayor today claimed he was the victim and not the aggressor in last week's match between Arsenal and Manchester City at Eastlands.

Adebayor accused some Arsenal players of refusing to shake his hand, slammed fans for abusing him non-stop and pointed the finger at Arsene Wenger for selling him for £25million behind his back.

The Togo striker was yesterday handed a three-game suspension for violent conduct after stamping on Robin van Persie's face.

An investigation into his provocative goal celebration could extend that ban and prompt a heavy fine as City have until 30 September to respond to a charge of improper conduct.

Adebayor, banned for Sunday's Manchester derby at Old Trafford, said: "I think, in terms of class on the pitch, we have overtaken Arsenal and that was a reason for some of the hostility. There were players from Arsenal who refused to shake my hand before the match. I don't want to give you their names - that is not my style - but there's more than one of them.

"My friends, like Emmanuel Eboue, were fine with me. They are decent people. But I could not understand some of the Arsenal players being disrespectful.

"These are people I have spent a lot of time with and people I thought were my friends.

"I can just about understand the fans' reaction because they don't know the full story. It wasn't my fault I left, it was Arsene who wanted to accept the offer for me.

"However, the way some of the players behaved is just crazy.

"When a man offers you his hand, you shake it. For them to act like that was a disgrace."

Cesc Fabregas and Emmanuel Eboue both today revealed their anger at their former team-mate's aggression towards Arsenal.

Fabregas was left with a 3inch gash across his leg and told The Sun: "We don't think about him any more. He doesn't play for Arsenal so we just have to concentrate on our game and our players."

And Eboue, added: "What he did is not good for football."

Van Persie could return for tomorrow's home Premier League clash with Wigan.
