England 3 Brazil 1: Rhian Brewster fires Under-17s into World Cup Final with another hat-trick

After 51 years of hurt England could be celebrating a second World Cup win in a matter of months after the Under-17s reached the final with a 3-1 win over Brazil.

Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster scored all three goals for Steve Cooper’s side, leaving them 90 minutes away from repeating the heroics of the U20s in South Korea over the summer.

England made an explosive start in Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium, Brewster tapping home at the second attempt to put the finishing touch on a brilliant cross by Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi afer only 10 minutes.

England were unable to hold on to their lead, Brazil drawing level midway through the second half when Three Lions goalkeeper Curtis Anderson spilled a shot to the feet of right-back Wesley.

It was a rare slip from the English defence, ably marshalled by captain Joel Latibeaudiere, though when Brazil were able to find their way through their finishing was poor.

The same could not be said of Brewster, who was on hand to turn in a cross from Fulham prospect Steven Sessegnon just before half-time.

With 14 minutes left Brewster added to his quarter-final hat-trick with another from the semi, once more slotting in from close range after Phil Foden had found the overlapping Emile Smith-Rowe to fizz in a cross.

England will face the winner of this afternoon’s second semi-final between Spain and Mali in the Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday.
