England finish 2016 one place below Wales in Fifa world rankings

England have finished 13th - one place below Wales - in the year-ending Fifa world rankings.

The Three Lions endured a disastrous Euro 2016 campaign, losing to Iceland in the last 16.

The defeat prompted Roy Hodgson to resign and Gareth Southgate is now in charge after Sam Allardyce's brief tenure ended in controversy.

Wales, meanwhile, progressed to the semi-finals at Euro 2016 before being knocked out by eventual winners Portugal.

Chris Coleman's side have climbed above their neighbours as a result and will have the top 10 in their sights if their upward trajectory continues next year.

The Republic of Ireland are 23rd while Northern Ireland are 32nd and Scotland are languishing in 67th.

Argentina, Brazil and Germany make up the top three while Chile, who won the Copa America earlier this year, are fourth.
