England injury news: Ryan Bertrand out vs Germany, but no call-up for West Ham's Cresswell

England have been dealt another injury setback with the news that Ryan Bertrand has been forced out of the squad to face Germany.

Bertrand, 26, was injured during Southampton's 3-2 win against Liverpool on Sunday, and has now returned to his club after being assessed by England physios.

The Saints full-back edged out West Ham's Aaron Cresswell for a spot in Roy Hodgson's 23-man squad, though the FA have confirmed that no further call-ups are currently planned.

A statement released by the Football Association on Thursday afternoon read: "Ryan Bertrand has returned to his club this afternoon for further treatment.

"The Southampton defender picked up an injury in the match against Liverpool last weekend.

"He has since been assessed by the England medical team but will not be fit in time to face Germany. There will be no call-ups at this time.

"The England team depart St. George’s Park for Berlin tomorrow morning."

England face Germany in Berlin on March 26 before taking on Netherlands - who lost footballing legend Johan Cruyff following a battle with cancer on Thursday - on March 29.

Hodgson has already lost Manchester City duo Joe Hart and Raheem Sterling to injury after the pair were replaced during Sunday's Manchester derby defeat to rivals United.
